Casa Mãe was once an abandoned estate until 2016 when it was transformed into a sunny casa ideal for exploring Lagos and southern Portugal. While the hotel is located near the marina, the beaches, and the central area of town, the property is quite private and unassuming. Casa Mãe comprises four buildings with slightly different styles of rooms, 34 in total—minimalist, boho chic, and classic vintage—all designed for optimal relaxation.

Casa Mãe prioritizes and emphasizes sustainability; seasonal veggies are grown in the property’s central garden, eggs come from their 200 chickens, and 90% of what you’ll find at the hotel is made in Portugal. Opt for the catch of the day at dinner for some of the best fish you’ll ever have. The hotel also aims for zero food waste, which guests should keep in mind while visiting (you won’t find any breakfast buffets here but thoughtful, curated choices which are included in your stay).

Casa Mãe is a place for wellness, where slowing down and soaking in the sun—whether on the beach or at the pool—is prioritized. Take advantage of the spa circuit, where you’ll have two hours to enjoy the private rooftop pool, sauna, steam room, and hydrotherapy showers for only 25€ per person (with a maximum of four guests at a time). Other sought-after activities include a guided visit to the winery, surf lessons, and a private boat rental.

Getting there: Lagos is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Lisbon and a 50-minute drive from the Faro airport.

Room rates vary from 145€ to 1400€ per night, depending on the season.
